Bold, Beautiful Brows. Nothing makes a beauty statement quite like a strong brow. Gone are the days when tweezers ran wild and rid your face of any stray hair that might allow for a wider than pencil thin eyebrow! Instead, full eyebrows rule- and if you don’t have ‘em naturally… fake it! We love Diane Kruger’s subtly enhanced brows for the cover of this month’s Allure. In the summer, a strong brow with a swab of lip balm is all you need to make an understated look stand out. Get the look from Jane Iredale’s natural mineral makeup Bitty Brow Kit.

Blades Natural Beauty from the NY Project. Many of you have requested the beauty beta from the NY Project shoot- so like any good eco-fashion and beauty resource FASHIONmeGREEN delivers the goods! We asked the NY Project natural makeup artist Jessa Blades to dish the details on the products she used as well as why she thinks being a ‘green beauty’ is so important.
Sick of sacrificing women’s health for the sake of beauty, make-up artist Jessa Blades ditched toxic brands and founded BLADES NATURAL BEAUTY in 2008, offering makeup services that use only natural and organic ingredients. Jessa also began working as an organic beauty consultant, and has since emerged as one of the go-to experts in an eco-beauty movement that is long overdue. Blades was also featured as one of Glamour magazine’s “69 Amazing Eco-Heroes of 2009.”

For the NY Project featuring the natural beauty of PR Director for Style.com and Teen Vogue, Eleanor Banco, Blades prepped the skin with Soapwalla Restorative Face Serum (1), before lightly evening out Banco’s complexion with Organic Glam Foundation (2).
“She has great skin so we used the foundation sparlingly- just focusing on the center of her face and blending outward,” states Blades.
Then Blades used a light misting of Evan Healy Lavender Facial Tonic Hydrosol (3) to hydrate the skin and set the makeup. Next, it was a quick brushing of Organic Glam Blusher in PINK (4) on the apples of Banco’s cheeks to add a pop of color. Lastly, a swipe of Primitive Lip gloss in Lanai (5) completed the look.

This second look is all in the eyes! “I gave her a simple eye look- focusing a lot on an inky black eyeliner and a beautiful, rich brown with a lot of shimmer in it- this helped define her eyes and show off her beautiful eye color.” Blades used a Dr Hauschka Eye Shadow Palette (1) and Zosimos Botanicals Eyeliner in Black to achieve this look. For a subtly enhanced and vibrant lip, Blades used Organic Glam Lipstick in Fuschia (2). For a more dramatic eye, Blades applied 2 coats of Mascara by Couleur Caramel (3). One of Blades favorite products is the Weleda Almond Face Cream (4) for light hydration that is perfect for summer weather.
Blades says:
“Green beauty is all about being thoughtful and healthy for ourselves and our environment… It is the evolution of beauty. Products that are truly helping our skin, without toxins, to highlight our own natural features.”
We couldn’t agree more!

Forth of July Fingernails. Red nails never go out of style, but they do pick up steam during certain times of the year. The forth of July is one such time and opting for a ‘race car red’ is the best way to sport this classic trend with a modern twist. Keep the nails short and well manicured, and then apply two coats of butter LONDON in Pillar Box Red. All butter LONDON nail varnishes are 3-free (nail color without formaldehyde, toluene or DBP), so you can be the non-toxic beauty queen!

Neon Nails. Bump up your summer tan with a high-watt neon yellow! As versatile as it is fun- neon yellow is anything but mellow. Get the look from non-toxic Priti in Devils Fig. Priti is a DBP-free nail varnish. Translation: DBP stands for dibutyl pthalate (DBP) and has been linked to birth defects and reproductive problems. Most nail polishes contain DBP.

Blackout Eyes! Nothing updates a look more quickly and effectively than a change in make-up. The Fall 2010 trends are going strong with a black rimmed eye that draws attention and keeps it! Get the look with a Jane Iredale eye liner made with natural pigments and conditioning oils. For a stand out make-up trick try lining both the inside and outside of your eyes with either black or a black and midnight blue combination (black on the outside with blue on the inside or vice versa).

Natural Sun Shield. Tempting as it is to soak up some rays and get the bronzed goddess look- it is far better to protect your skin and tan gradually under the supervision of a natural sunblock. Burt’s Bees makes a chemical-free sunscreen perfect for face and body. Remember, you should be using a nickel size amount on your face and two shot glasses worth on your body.

Beauty Trend: Bronze Eyes. Bronzer is no longer just about evening out skin tone and creating an alluring glow. Centering this enigmatic color around the eyes forms a halo that brings out any eye color and gives you a distinctive look.
Now it is easier than ever to try out this gorgeous glance with finger paints from Josie Maran. No brush required. Use your fingers to smudge in the beautiful Finger Paint color palate. Paraben-free, sulfate-free, made from organic jojoba seed oil and organic shea butter- this makeup provides color and care.

Cheeky Night At The Oscars: Anna Kendrick’s Natural Makeup. Anna Kendrick may be new to the big screen, but her flawless beauty and style sense shot her straight to the top. The actress was nominated for Best Supporting Role for Up in the Air- opposite George Clooney.
For her look at the 82nd Academy Awards, Kendrick opted for a naturally enhanced fresh face. Make-up artist, Sara Glick prepped the actress’ skin and said, ”For a natural flush, I accented Anna’s cheek bones with a coral shade.” She used eco-cheek by Tarte Cosmetics, a non-toxic natural cheek stain. To get Kendrick’s look, dab and blend the cheek stain on the apples of your cheeks.

NYFW A/W 2010 Makeup Trend: Fresh Faces and Red Lips. Looks like the vampire craze has spread to the runways! However, the porcelain skin with clean fresh eyes balances the bold lip. This color will be great for transitioning into Spring with a slight orange under-hue.

For a rich red lipstick that packs a punch try Bare Escentuals Red Delicious. The color is bold and opaque, so you really get the statement effect. If you have a coral lip color, brush a bit over top to create a new color that is more playful.

Feels like we are dangerously close to that blue eye shadow trend women sported in the 50s, but with a modern twist teal eyeshadow is one of the hottest looks this fall.
Think of teal as the new smokey black- the trick is to blend it and soften the edges. Start with a darker teal near the lash line and then blend upwards and outwards to achieve a seamless smokey effect. To take the look a little bit deeper, line the inside of the eyes all the way around with a grey or black eyeliner. Finish with mascara. Because the eyes are the focus, keep the rest of the look neutral with a slightly pink or nude lip and softly brushed on blush.
Try Tarte’s eco-friendly lash hugger mascara and Nvey Makeup’s organic eye shadow in Teal Shimmer and Gold Deep Green Shimmer.
