A leading fashion capital of the world, New York boasts a ‘wear anything’ attitude and is chalked full of style signatures! FASHIONmeGREEN sought out a true NYC style influncer, Teen Vogue and Style.com’s PR Director Eleanor Banco for the NY Project and eco-fashion makeover.

A self-proclaimed fashion lover, Eleanor’s style balances high fashion statements with an easy sophistication. We’ve labeled her the queen of accessories with a Parisian High Fashion Ghetto Fabulous aesthetic! Click on the flip book below to pull up the full screen view and peruse this New York fashionista’s sustainable style makeover using ten of New York’s hottest eco-designers.

The best part about eco-fashion is that it tells two stories. The first is a style story. Creative Director at Barney’s Julie Gilhart adeptly said, “Style is particular to each person and personifies the way we put a look together and want to be seen.” The second story is the green story- the intimate process of production behind the style and the creative influence. Below, we’ve listed the ten eco-designers sourced for the NY Project and the green credentials backing their green stories.

BodkinBodkin takes as its point of departure the finest and most innovative sustainability-oriented fabrics in the world, from the best new technologies (such as post-consumer recycled polyester) to handloomed weaves from collectives in India, domestic organic cotton dyed by hand, and decades-old salvaged textiles. All pieces are made in the United States.

Cri de CoeurCri de Coeur is a French expression that translates literally to “cry from the heart.” A vegan shoe line with sustainable fabric sourcing at it’s core, Cri de Coeur provides shoes that meet both the highest ethical and style standards.

Doucette Duvall- Doucette Duvall practices environmental and social responsibility by manufacturing the entire collection in New York City’s historic garment district, using pre-existing fabric and trim, shunning extraneous garment bags and hang tags, and shipping in recycled boxes only.

H Fredriksson- H Fredriksson is a collection designed with a modern, artistic and sustainable conscious purpose. The collection is manufactured in New York City using sustainable fabrics and production methods. The Swedish designer Helena Fredriksson lives and works in Brooklyn.

Lauren Pierce- The Lauren Pierce collection is made with environmentally friendly fabrics of the highest quality that are hand-crafted by artisans from around the world.

Lizzie Fortunato Jewels- Lizzie Fortunato Jewels draws on the priciple that high-end jewelry is not limited to diamonds, and features industrial, found and reclaimed materials in exceptionally fashion-forward designs.

Osborn Design- Osborn Design showcases an evolving line of products through the continuous collaboration with friends, economically disadvantaged artisans and creative entities.

Stella McCartney- Sourcing organically for her collections as well as providing women with leather alternatives for shoes and handbags with high fashion designs, Stella McCartney is leading the way in eco-focused high fashion.

Study-Study is both a design firm which produces seasonal sustainable clothing collections AND an incubator for young talent to grow within the sustainable design community.  For the collection, designer Tara St James applies no waste patternmaking techniques, uses organic and deadstock fabrics and recycled or vintage trims.

Suno New York- Sourcing the natural resources, talent and goodwill of Kenya, Suno employs local Kenyans to showcase their artistry for the production of the Suno collection.

Style is the manifestation of self-knowledge and a creative spirit. Now, more than ever, that same sense of self resonates beyond the outer appearance and reaches a deeper source of identity through the knowledge and support of eco-fashion.

Many thanks to the SoHo House NYC, Eleanor Banco (style influencer), Jamie Beck (photographer), Jessa Blades (natural make-up artist, Colleen Duggan (photographer’s assistant) and Andrew Mirabito (video assistant).

Underwear As Outerwear: S/S 2010 Trend. It’s getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes! A sexy and fresh trend that is slowly infiltrating its way into the mainstream and a nightclub or office near you- underwear as outerwear.

A return to the feminine celebration of being sexy but not slutty. It is a delicate balance of showing just a bit and leaving more to the imagination. The key to pulling this sultry sweet look off is to mix textures and keep your shoes sturdy and a tad more on the conservative side so as not to look like you came from a porn set.

You can layer two or three sheer bras under a body suit to get a more unique (and covered!) look. Or, add a fun print solid bra for full coverage. Pair the body suit with a high-waisted knee length skirt or pair of trousers and heels and a long cardigan for an office appropriate look. Make sure that the body suit you are wearing during work hours is solid and doesn’t leave you nervous about showing too much.

For a hot night out, take a cue from our favorite celebrities and pair a sheer body suit with a satin bra with a high-waisted mini and a blazer. For the eco-friendly versions of this trend be sure to check out what American Apparel, Stella McCartney and Eco-Boudoir have on offer.

A Coat For All Seasons: The Trench. The trench coat has long been on the list of “Invest In What You Love”. Every woman has or aspires to have the perfect form-fitting and classic coat in their wardrobe. Season after season it makes an appearance on the runways and on the streets as a ‘must have’!

That is why is has been deemed the coat of all seasons- timeless as it is functional. We have all  heard of Burberry kaki trenches being passed down through the generations of a family. That certainly is one way to partake in sustainable fashion, but if you wanted to take it a step further and ensure that the trench you are passing along was made from organically sourced fibers you might consider Taxi CDC

We are also in love with the more tailored blazer-like trench fresh off the runways from Stella McCartney’s RTW Fall 2010.

Celebrity Sustainable Style Makeover: The Hills. We love the contrasting styles of these two reality TV ‘It girls’ from The Hills. LC is picture perfect classic with a tailored blazer, peep-toe shoes and a timeless white blouse. Now for the sustainable style makeover! This look is quite classic, and requires an investment in a staple blazer. Stella McCartney delivers amazing tailored pieces that have designer details with a real wearability. Build the look with a white oxford shirt from Bamford, and a softly structured skirt from EcoSkin. Finish the look with a sweet pair of vegan ‘patent leather’ peep-toe pumps from Neuaura.

Prefer the edgy look sported by Audrina? We’ve got you covered! Audrina balances a slouchy causal top with street chic jeans and standout shoes. SUST is your go-to for California chic layers. Opt for their Disco Top in a number of colors. Who better to provide you with street chic denim than G-Star Raw? And now G-Star is producing an eco-denim line souring organic and recycled denim. Top it all off with a stunning pair of statement shoes from Neuaura.
